22.  Senator S.Y. Mézec will ask the following question of the Minister for Children and Housing (OQ.64/2021):

"Does the Minister support the ambition set out in the Jersey Homelessness Strategy that setting more affordable rents for social housing should be considered?"

The following response was provided in writing in accordance with Standing Order 63(9) as the oral question was not asked before the end of the time allowed for Oral Questions:

I welcome the publication of the Jersey Homelessness Strategy by the Homelessness Strategic Board. The strategy is an ambitious, comprehensive and evidence-based framework for tackling homelessness in Jersey, I will be formally issuing a detailed response to this strategy this week.

The Government of Jersey is committed to working in partnership with the Homelessness Strategic Board to deliver actions to support the aims of the strategy. Social housing has a vital role to play in the local community, providing affordable, high quality and secure accommodation to those in Jersey who need it, including people who are vulnerable and at risk of homelessness. I commend the important role of Andium Homes and the Housing Trusts in the social rental sector. The current Government Plan (2021-2024) includes a review of social rent policy in 2021 and, as the newly elected Housing Minister, I am fully committed to completing this review.
