WQ.380/2021
WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE MINISTER FOR HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES BY DEPUTY M.R. LE HEGARAT OF ST. HELIER
QUESTION SUBMITTED ON TUESDAY 28thSEPTEMBER 2021
ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON TUESDAY 5th OCTOBER 2021
Question
Will the Minister provide details of the utilisation, in percentage terms, of private patients' ward bed capacity, broken down annually for the last 5 years?
Answer
There are 14 rooms available on Sorel ward for use by the Private Patient Service.
At times of increased levels of inpatient activity across the hospital where there is a need for cubicles for infection control purposes eg during covid, public patients may be cared for on Sorel ward (illustrated in the final column of the table below), which affects the overall bed utilisation of Sorel ward.
[Please note that during 2020 there was significant disruption to all surgical operations across HCS with only urgent surgery taking place irrespective of the patient status (private or public).]
