WQ.71/2022

WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE MINISTER FOR TREASURY AND RESOURCES BY DEPUTY R.J. WARD OF ST.HELIER

QUESTION SUBMITTED ON MONDAY 21st FEBRUARY 2022 ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON MONDAY 28th FEBRUARY 2022

Question

"Will the Minister, as shareholder representative, advise whether it is the intention of Andium Homes not to pursue building on the Gas Works site following the refusal of planning permission?"

Answer

Andium Homes has two potential schemes for the Jersey Gas site. A development of 253 homes which was in place when it acquired the site and a separate scheme for 122 homes for which the company received approval in September 2019. A third scheme also for 122 units but with a different arrangement for parking was refused by the Planning Applications Committee because of concerns over possible archaeology beneath the site.

In May 2021 Andium suggested to Government that there was an opportunity to use the site to create an extension to the Millennium Town Park, given the development of almost 1,000 new homes in the North of Town across a number of sites owned by Andium and others. Recognising that the 122 homes would not therefore be delivered on the Jersey Gas site, these will need to be delivered on surplus Government owned sites or other sites instead. A list of potential Government sites was published by the Minister for Housing & Communities in November 2021.  R Publicly owned sites for housing.pdf (gov.je).
