WQ.77/2022

WRITTEN QUESTION TO THE CHAIR OF THE STATES EMPLOYMENT BOARD BY DEPUTY I. GARDINER OF ST. HELIER

QUESTION SUBMITTED ON MONDAY 21st FEBRUARY 2022 ANSWER TO BE TABLED ON MONDAY 28th FEBRUARY 2022

Question

Will the Minister provide details of any relocation package provided for essential key workers including, but not limited to, housing provision and assistance with children's schooling?

Answer

The Government of Jersey has a comprehensive relocation policy that is available to all new employees who are joining the Government from overseas on a permanent contract. All new employees receive:

A two-day orientation visit for the new employee and their family

Removal costs

A £3,000 taxable lump sum in the new employee's first months' salary

Additionally, all new permanent employees have access to an on-island relocation provider contracted directly to the government which provide a relocation support package which is individually tailored to the new employee's requirements. There are seven support packages, which will therefore vary according to the nature of the employment, and which cover the following areas:

Package 1: Support in finding temporary accommodation

Package 2: Supporting in finding a home to rent/buy

Package 3: Support in finding a nursery or school for dependents

Package 4: Settling onto Island administration

Package 5: Initial first three months settling in package

Package 6: Support for a Spouse/Partner

Package 7: Support in managing removals

New employees joining on a fixed term contract of 18 months or less, do not receive the full relocation package, but do receive a rental support allowance of £500 per month and also £1,200 per annum towards travel to their home residence.
