Question

"In relation to the payment of Social Security contributions by employers on behalf of employees who have reached pensionable age and who are no longer required to pay contributions themselves, will the Minister –

  1. explain why these contributions are being paid by employers; and
  2. state the annual total value of these contributions for each of the years 2021, 2022 and 2023?"

Answer (a)

Employers pay employer contributions for all their employees, so they are treated equally, regardless of whether the employees pay contributions themselves. This ensures the financial sustainability of the Social Security Fund.
