STATEMENT TO BE MADE BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE SCRUTINY CHAIRMEN'S COMMITTEE
ON TUESDAY 19th JUNE 2007
The Chairmen's Committee was very surprised to read that the Chief Minister was proposing that PPC compile a chronology of the work of the Scrutiny Sub-Panel and inquire into other aspects of its work into the Housing Department's Property Plan. No prior consultation has taken place either with the relevant Scrutiny Panel or with the Chairmen's Committee.
Indeed, it is very concerned that the Chief Minister should have announced this move before a debate has taken place in the States on the Plan.
The debate will provide the opportunity for members to comment both on the Report and on the Housing Department Plan. Should any concerns flow from that debate as to the approach taken by the Panel and, indeed, by the Housing Department then that is the time to seek an inquiry.
