Comptroller and Auditor General BY EMAIL
18th September 2020
Dear Comptroller and Auditor General
Safer Travel Guidelines Review Panel – Interim Report: findings and recommendations I am writing to you as Chair of the Safer Travel Guidelines Review Panel.
In July this year, the Panel published its interim report which made a total of 8 recommendations in relation to the Government's Safer Travel Guidelines. The Ministerial Response to our findings and recommendations was subsequently lodged in the States on 16th September 2020.
Given your role as Comptroller and Auditor General and the review you are currently undertaking on the Government's response to the Covid-19 pandemic (which we understand aims to look at the effectiveness of governance and decision making processes); the Panel would be interested to hear your views on recommendation 3 and the Minister for Health and Social Services response rejecting this recommendation. Specifically, the Panel would like to ascertain whether you agree with recommendation 3 in regard to demonstrating good governance and decision making and whether you feel the role of STAC, its composition and its relationship to Government is clear and transparent enough under current arrangements.
We would be very grateful to hear any views you have in writing, and if you feel a meeting would be beneficial please do let us know and we can make the necessary arrangements.
Yours sincerely,
Deputy Robert Ward
Chair, Safer Travel Guidelines Review Panel
