States Greffe: Scrutiny

Deputy Rowland Huelin Assistant Chief Minister

6th October 2021

Dear Assistant Chief Minister,

Migration and Population Review Panel Confirmation of Population Policy debate date

Firstly, the Panel would like to thank you and officers for their continued engagement with Scrutiny during the ongoing development of a Population Policy for Jersey.

In November 2020 the States Assembly voted to accept an amendment brought by Deputy Jess Perchard to her proposition P.120/2020 – Migration and Population Data which tasked the Council of Ministers with delivering a Common Population Policy to the Assembly to be debated before 31st December 2021.

As we have now entered the final quarter of 2021, the Panel would seek clarification from the Assistant Chief Minister about the date on which it is intended that the Common Population Policy will be lodged as a proposition. Please could the Chief Minister confirm that it is his intention, in keeping with the States' decision outlined above, that the debate will go ahead in December.

The Panel would also be grateful if the Assistant Chief Minister could confirm, by no later than Wednesday 13th October 2021, the date on which amendments to Control of Housing and Work Law outlined in P.137/2020 – Migration Control Policy will be lodged.

Yours sincerely.

Senator Steve Pallett

Chair, Migration and Population Review Panel cc. Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré
