16th April 2021 Dear Chief Minister,

Legal Aid Review Panel

Progress of Legal Aid Guidelines Appointed Day Act

Thank you for your letter of the 4th February 2021 in which you highlighted your planned timeline for lodging of the Appointed Day Act for the Access to Justice (Jersey) Law 2019 and subsequent consultation and proposition of the Legal Aid Guidelines.

The Panel wishes to enquire as to the progress through the indicative timetable and the date on which the Appointed Day Act will be lodged, noting that you intended to present the proposed Guidelines to the Assembly by the end of September 2021.

We have again copied the Batonnier, the Judicial Greffier, and the Law Society of Jersey into this letter so that they are made aware of this letter and so that they may provide additional information to the Panel relevant to its contents should they see fit.

We would be grateful if you could reply by Friday 23rd April 2021. Yours sincerely,

Deputy Steve Ahier

Chair, Legal Aid Review Panel
