Dear Mr Armstrong

Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel – COVID-19 Response and Recovery Event Decision Making

The Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel has received comments from a member of the public highlighting potential contradictions in decision making concerning hosting of events within the island. As you may be aware, the Scrutiny Liaison Committee has also recently written to the Chief Minister to highlight its concern regarding the inconsistency of the Government's strategic approach and implementation of policy changes.

As part of its COVID-19 Response and Recovery Review, the Panel would be grateful if you could clarify the following in your capacity as Chair of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Cell (STAC):

What consideration and advice was given by STAC on the hosting of large government backed events?

What consideration and advice has been given to hosting privately controlled events such as weddings and formal celebrations recently? For example, we would be grateful if we could understand how the differentiation between events held in a private garden and a field has arisen, and the underpinning rationale.

We look forward to your response, if this can please be received by Friday 9th July 2021. Yours sincerely

Senator Kristina Moore

Chair, Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel
