Deputy Rob Ward Chair, HSS Panel BY EMAIL

18 May 2023

Dear Chair,

Re: Health and Community Services Interim Board

Thank you for your letter dated 17 May 2023 regarding the debate of P.19/2023.

As I advised States Members on Tuesday, 16 May 2023, following a discussion at Council of Ministers, it was agreed that the debate be deferred from the 23 May sitting to the 13 June sitting to afford States Members further time to consider the proposals.

In terms of expanding on the rationale for this, several general queries have been raised by Members which cover the membership, resource implications, the future role of the Board and other more minor matters.

The additional time will afford me the opportunity to address these queries and to continue to demonstrate that my proposals are required, particularly in light of the report last year into secondary care governance[1] and the recent announcements on our Rheumatology service23.

When we come to the debate, I do hope that all colleagues will understand that we need to continue our journey of making changes to the governance of HCS to ensure Islanders receive the care they deserve - we cannot continue with the systems of the past and present.

If the Panel require anything further, please do not hesitate to contact me. Yours sincerely,

Deputy Karen Wilson
