Dear Chair,

Follow-up matters from the Public Hearing on 4th October 2024

Thank you for your letter of 16th October in which you raise a number of matters following our recent public hearing.

The Panel has requested sight of the options paper regarding online safety once completed, I would be happy to provide this in due course and expect to receive this paper towards the end of November.

The Panel has also asked for sight of the consultation regarding online safety. I  understand the Panel to be referring to any public consultation regarding to any relevant changes to Jersey's legislation. I would of course be happy to provide this to the Panel and indeed such consultations

are typically approved via Ministerial Decision and therefore shared with Scrutiny as a matter of course.

Finally, the Panel  has asked for further information regarding the work underway to update the Cyber Security Strategy. This is being led by my Assistant Minister, Deputy Moz Scott who holds delegated responsibility for Cyber Security. As the Panel will be aware, we are in the final stages of drafting the Cyber Security (Jersey) Law which will constitute the Jersey Cyber Security Centre (JCSC)as  an  arm's length  entity and provide  for  the designation  of  Operators of  Essential Services. Work has now begun to update the Cyber Security Strategy and following the lodging of legislation, due in Q4 2024, this work will be completed in 2025. This updated strategy will provide a clear  policy framework to inform both the JCSC's work and promote cyber security more broadly across the Island.

I hope the above provides clarity to the areas you have raised. Yours sincerely

Deputy Kirsten Morel

Minister for Sustainable Economic Development
