1 Legal Advice CLQ
The Panel was asked to consider retaining the services of Hanson and Renouf following confirmation from H.M. Attorney General to the Chairman in respect of RUDL questions and that he was not able to respond to the questions. On that basis the Panel was asked to decide if it would wish to retain the services of Hanson Renouf as outlined in the letter circulated to members during the Foreshore Visit on 20th July 2006, the total cost of the legal advice would not exceed £5,000 and the hourly charge would be £250 for a senior partner results in a £45 per hour discount.
The Panel decided that it would retain the services of the law firm and accepted that due to time constraints it would not be able to pursue the normal tendering process. The Chairman advised that he would inform the Chairmen's Committee at its next meeting. It was noted that costs were competitive when compared to previous quotes for legal advice and the company has been used by Scrutiny on a previous occasion.
The Scrutiny Officer was requested to make the necessary arrangements in consultation with the Chairman.
