The Panel considered progress on its Scrutiny Review of the rôle

of  the  Centenier  in  the  Magistrate's  Court. This  part  of  the meeting was held in private session under Item 3.2.1(a) (xiv) of

Code of Practice on Public Access to Official Information.

The Panel received an update on progress that had been made

in  identifying  suitable  interview  dates  with  candidates  for  the position of the Panel's expert adviser. The Panel agreed that candidates  would  be  invited  to  interview  on  Friday  14th TO September 2007 and that preparatory work for the interviews should begin. It was noted that the Scrutiny Officer would follow

up this matter.

The  Panel  noted Annual  Business  Plan  2008  (P.93/2007): Amendment, lodged by the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture on 1st August 2007 and Annual Business Plan 2008 (P.93/2007):  Amendment  (P.93/2007  AMD.) -  Amendment, lodged  by  the  Minister  for  Treasury  and  Resources  on  24th August 2007. The Panel agreed that it would not take part in the TO debate on the Amendments scheduled for 18th September 2007

and would abstain from voting. The Panel agreed to write to the Minister informing him of its decision.

[30/04/07, The Panel recalled that at its meeting on 30th April 2007 the TO Item 2] Comptroller and Auditor General had informed it about work that

he was undertaking in relation to Nursery Education. The Panel requested  the  Officer  to  contact  the  Comptroller  and  Auditor General to establish the current position.

The Panel noted the possibility of inviting the Comptroller and Auditor General to discuss this and his other relevant work, such as  that  undertaken  in  2006  on  the  Jersey  Child  Care  Trust, during the course of its review.
