1. Police Force Law

The Panel considered its draft comments to the Minister for Home Affairs. It requested that once agreed amendments had been completed the  revised  draft  should  be  distributed  to  Panel  Members  and  the Panel's adviser for approval. This should be received no later than midday on Thursday 4th September in order that the Minister would be sent the Panel's comments the following day.

2. Customs and Immigration

The Panel noted correspondence, dated 18th August 2008, that had been despatched to the Minister for Home Affairs. It considered the draft report and current status of the Customs and Immigration Review and agreed that the officer would continue work on drafting the report and liaise with the Chairman accordingly.

3. Higher Education Funding

The Panel noted receipt of correspondence relating to financial support of  students  in  higher  education  and  requested  clarification  of  the Minister's deadline for Panel comments on the matter.

4. Questions to Ministers

The  Panel  noted  the  following  arrangements  for  questions  without notice to Ministers at future States sittings:

  • 9th September 2008 Minister for Treasury and Resources Minister for Economic Development
  • 16th September 2008 Minister for Home Affairs Chief Minister

 

 

5. Future Meetings

The Panel agreed that it would not, at this time, set a date for a future Panel meeting. Agenda items that would usually be included for noting would in future be dealt with by electronic mail, although the Panel was of the opinion that it would need to meet on occasion for consideration of other matters that required greater consideration and/or decision making. The Panel directed the officer to prepare a draft agenda of all outstanding matters for consideration by the Chairman.
