Prison Board of Visitors - Composition

The  Panel  received  a  report  and  proposition  prepared  by   Deputy M. Tadier , Chairman of the Sub-Panel which had reviewed the Prison Board of Visitors (SR7/2009).

The Panel noted that the proposition, which was consistent with a recommendation of the Sub-Panel, requested the States to agree that:

  1. the composition of the Prison Board of Visitors should be

amended to provide that independent members of the public should be permitted to sit on the Board; and

  1. that Jurats of the Royal Court should not be prohibited from

being  members  of  the  Board,  but  that  their  number  should  be restricted to a maximum of three members out of the total membership of seven.

The Panel approved the proposition and requested that it be lodged au Greffe for debate before the summer recess.
