2. Working Practices

The Panel agreed a schedule of meetings for 2012.

Members agreed to receive papers in hard copy in their pigeon holes in the States Building rather than through the post.

4. Legacy report and future review topics

The Panel considered the legacy report of the former Education and Home Affairs Panel. Members gave preliminary consideration to the following topics which could be subject to review in 2012:

  • P.182/2011: Draft States of Jersey Police Law 201-
  • ESC Department review of social inclusion together with follow up to SR7/2010 on School Suspensions
  • Comprehensive Spending Review: impact of proposed spending cuts on Jersey Youth Service
  • Investment in vocational skills training and measures to deal with youth unemployment
  • Issues arising from Strategic Framework for Children and Young People, eg changes to Youth Justice system
  • Education, Sport and Culture forthcoming White Paper on the Future of Education
  • Outcome  of  work  currently  in  progress  with  Jersey  Property Holdings on facilities available to performing arts (follow up to SR 5/2011: Cultural Strategy Review

 

 

5. Visit to UK Parliament

Members  agreed  that  it  would  be  appropriate  for  new  members' development to have the opportunity to visit the UK Parliament to see the  work  of  Select  Committees  in  action. The  Scrutiny  Officer  was requested to make the arrangements for a day visit in the New Year.

6. Succession Planning in the States of Jersey Police (SR7/2011)

Members noted that the Ministerial Response for the previous Panel's report  had  been  presented  to  the  States  and  requested  that  the response be considered on the next agenda.

 

 

7. Future meetings

The Panel agreed to meet again on 14th December 2011 after the training session
