510/1(42)

1. Webstreaming/webcasting

The Committee considered all matters relating to webstreaming and webcasting of public Scrutiny Hearings and agreed that, given the costs involved this was not an option to pursue at this time.

19.06.12 Item 6

510/1(42)

2. Podcasting

The Committee recalled that, following the attendance of Mr. P. Taylor , Communications Services, on the Committee at its last meeting, it had been minded to pursue podcasting in the first instance. The Committee noted that some work had been undertaken to set this up and that there were currently some technical and training difficulties which were being dealt  with  and  once  overcome  would  permit  podcasting  to  be undertaken by way of a trial.

13.06.12 Item 8

510/1(42)

3. Visual footage of Scrutiny Hearings by members of the public

The Committee considered the responses from all Scrutiny Members in answer to the question:-

Do you think members of the public should be permitted to take visual images of Scrutiny Hearings?

It was noted that nine Members had voted against the public filming, with four in favour and three non-replies.

The Committee agreed that the status quo would be maintained, that members of the public would not be permitted to film (members of the public included those who called themselves "Citizen's media") and that only the media would be permitted to take any visual footage for the first five minutes of public hearings.

The "Code of behaviour for members of the public" would be amended to remove the reference to the exploration of webcasting.

4. Resignation of the Comptroller and Auditor General and the work

1443(1)

of the Public Accounts Committee

The Committee gave initial consideration of the events surrounding the recent resignation of Mr. C. Swinson, O.B.E. and the potential impact on the work of the Public Accounts Committee.
