1.  Migration Policy

The Panel welcomed the Chief Statistician to discuss statistics relevant to the Migration Policy.

The Chief Statistician explained to the Panel the net inward migration total for 2016 and the respective proportions of licensed and registered workers. The Panel asked for further information on the number of applications refused under the Control of Housing and Work Law.

Discussions then moved on to the impact of net inward migration on the Island's infrastructure requirements.

The Panel also considered the proposed work permit system outlined in the Migration Policy and how it compared to the system in place in Guernsey.

The Chief Statistician then explained the primary industry sectors which had driven population growth in recent years.

The meeting concluded with a discussion regarding future population projections based on different scenarios. The Panel asked for more information on the projections for when the Island's population would reach 200,000.
