Dear Chair

Re: Re: Health and Social Security Panel: Review of Government Plan 2023-26 Further to my letter dated 28 November 2022, see fuller response to question 3.

In the hearing on 7th November the Estates Manager advised that you have a RAG rating for issues across the estate to manage the backlog of maintenance. Can you advise how many red RAG ratings you have in total and the percentage of this number against all of the ratings? (page 19)

Original Response:

"As mentioned in the hearing, the RAG backlog maintenance list is being compiled annually in October/November to forecast the following year's maintenance works. This work is still underway for 2023. The outcome will be shared once this information is available."

Updated Response:

The Estate team assess the risks and required maintenance work on a regular basis using previous conditions surveys, feasibility assessments and day-to-day feedback from the teams working on the plant and equipment. The team plan ahead for the following year's programme of work in October/November. Based on this assessment a high priority list is being produced. Attached is the 2023 programme of works (as of 6 December 2022) for the Government Plan item Health Service Improvements' (Backlog maintenance) that was referenced in the Scrutiny hearing.

The list includes those items that have been rated as red. Please note, that the individual projects may already be underway (e.g., maternity refurbishment), or may be started this year. Due to the nature of estate maintenance works, some items will continue to be delivered in 2024.

Whilst the items on the list reflect the current assessment, the list is subject to change depending on clinical demand / accessibility to the clinical environment throughout the year.

I hope the above is of use to the Panel. Yours sincerely

Deputy Karen Wilson
