recently received a letter from Geoff Southern advising me that a new Sub-Panel has been formed to continue reviewing the delivery of Income Support and for myself to advise you whether the concerns I raised in the previous review have been resolved.
To give you a quick update, I wrote last year to Geoff and the panel advising them that my son who is x years old would under the new system loose his Attendance Allowance and Disability Transport Allowance as our household income was too high for him to continue receiving any financial support (and there were many families like myself).
The panel agreed with our plight and put their findings in a report to Mr Paul Routier who was the Minister of Social Security. On 3rd June 2008, Mr Routier announced in the States that all families with disabled children who did not qualify to receive Income Support would now receive transition payments until October 2010. He also proposed that his department would look to change the legislation so that a child with a severe disability would then be able to claim Income Support in their own right and not involve the overall household income.
This was good news however, since then I have not received anything in writing to advise me of the above and when I have spoken to staff at Social Security they have given me a different message each time. On my last visit I was told that my son's payments would be phased out in January 2009, this is incorrect as to date I am still receiving the transition payments.
My main concern is that we now have a new Minister who may not be fully aware of the above and therefore I would be grateful if the new panel could look into this to ensure that the promises made in June 2008 are being implemented and for the Social Security department to write to all families to confirm the situation. My son attends Mont a L'Abbe School and many parents are still unsure as to what is going on.
If you need any further information please do not hesitate to contact me. Kind regards.
