I was pleased to see you have set up a population scrutiny group. As a young islander I'd just like to quickly let you know my views on population:

- The Island is overstretched e.g. traffic jams, over crowded hospital, the new Hautlieu school already has issues with the school hall not big enough for all the students.

- House prices are too high due to ever increasing population, this may in turn lead to a serious negative equity situation, whilst it is forcing many young locals off the island.

- It is highly likely at some point that climate change and world wide population increase will lead to food shortage crises. We are very unlucky to be right near the top of a list of countries population densities; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_population_density

If food shortages come in to effect Jersey does not have enough land to support its entire population, Even if we all turned to the vegan diet which requires the least land for food production.

- The island is no longer; (as my gran described it) a beautiful tranquil place, but as each day goes by its becoming more and more like a dirty, noisy, polluted, overcrowded city.

Thanks for reading this, best wishes,

Ben du Feu
