Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you with regard to the article printed in last nights Jersey Evening Post - 1st Feb

I am shocked and disappointed that it has been deemed necessary that the issue of speed limits and the policing of such matters be addressed again. From what I can see more than enough evidence was gathered in the last report (sept 09) for suitable action to be taken.

As I understand a detailed survey was carried out not three years ago looking into this very issue. The results were very clear. The majority who completed the survey were opposed to a reduction in speed limits. The TTS minister has to justify his position, and one prominent goal he has expressed is to reduce road accidents. He must strive to achieve this, but also listen to the public (read 2009 review of speed limits) in doing so.

I cannot see how the constant focus on reducing speed limits, will ever produce positive results to his goal or represent the public's interests.

Information is available through the UK government statistics showing clearly that speed is not the determining factor causing accidents. If this is first accepted then it may be more practical to instead look down the avenue of improving driving standards and focus on enforcing speed limits that are currently in place.

A blanket speed campaign may well be more financially favourable in the short run but this "quick fix" will not have the desired effects and will no doubt be revisited in, say, less that 3 years.

Invest in a scheme that addresses bad driving habits that are the cause of accidents, rather than trying to avoid this fact which results negatively affecting good and bad driver alike.

I look forward to your response,

Kind regards, Andrew Bowman
