Dear Chairman,
In our opinion there is no need to change any of the limits so far set. However there is a very definite need to extend the green lane system and limit speeds in some of the more heavily populated areas.
As well as being motorists we are walkers and notice that in green lanes motorists often exceed the 15mph limit with little regard to pedestrian safety. We often meet tourists on these routes who are very complimentary on the green lane system. Will the island lose these tourists if the system is tinkered with? If the limit is increased to 20mph motorists will then exceed these limits and behave more dangerously. To say nothing of the costs involved replacing all the signage and road markings.
Twenty years ago we moved to our present address, the speed limit on Bagatelle Road was 40mph, there were multiple accidents to which the Emergency Services were frequently called. A lot of third party damage was caused and in one instance a car impact caused a concrete block to be catapulted through a neighbour's sitting room window. Finally the speed limit was reduced to 30mph and so far any accidents since have been minor.
Why fix something that ain't broke? Regards,
Peter and Anne Kempster
