To the Environment Scrutiny Panel re Review of Speed Limit Policy. Dear Panel
My views are as follows -
GREEN LANES SHOULD STAY AT 15mph. This scheme has been very successful for residents and us pedestrians/cyclists.
Visitors to the Island love the 15mph and it is a feature for attracting them on holiday. Tourism may suffer as a result. Please do not change!
ST. PETER'S VILLAGE. The present 20mph should be increased to 30mph. There is a very successful new pedestrian crossing so feel that 20 is far to slow.
St Ouen's Village is 30mph and presents no problems.
URBAN AREAS. Feel 30mph would be suitable.
Am unaware of which roads could be reduced from 40 to 30mph so unable to comment.
The digital screens which display a car's speed are a brilliant concept. There was one at St Peter's Village recently and what it did was highlight car speeds and ensure motorists slowed down. After all we are looking at the road when driving, not with our eyes fixed on our speedometers! We do not mean to 'speed' so these displays were a very good reminder.
There are quite a few speed signs which could be much bigger and some are obscured by our lovely Jersey hedges too!
regards
from Mrs Penny Hatter.
