Dear louise,
Please consider my concerns in response to the states proposed nursery hour cuts to 75k earners. I am a ward sister in the general hospital and myself and husband will be greatly affected by these changes should they come into action. There is no way that only 100 families will be affected. If this is the intention then the income bracket must be reconsidered.
- As it stands my child is 2 in June- I would like to have another but I am waiting until she is 3 as I cannot afford 2 kids in nursery at the same time (ie £3000 a month full time). The states subsidy allows me to consider another child.
- I may not have another child as unable to afford it- not good news for the future economy!
- I may have another- give up work (as not financially viable to work) and then qualify for free places??
- If nursery's profits were examined and not able to charge £1500 per child for full time nursey I would be happy to pay for 2 children- my sister lives in the UK and pays half of what I do
- Cutting the free hours to 15 hours is possibly more realistic and still cost effective
I am a competent senior nurse and would like to continue working but I am torn as my family means more to me than work. I hope I do not need to choose between them. I also recently worked with a registered nurse who had 2 children a year apart who gave up work as the states paid her £3500 a month in benefits to stay at home. The whole system seems ludicrous.
Many thanks for considering my views,
