To whom it may concern,
I wanted to write to you to with regard to the proposed nursery cuts.
My husband and I have always worked hard for our money; we saved for a mortgage, saved to be able to provide for our child and have always paid our taxes.
We are lucky enough to have parents who are able to help out with childcare for our first. However, as a teacher I am aware of the vital importance of nursery and want my child to attend for the social aspect.
With these cuts we would not be able to afford another child due to the high cost of childcare.
I feel that it will be the middle class children who will miss out on this array of vitally important skills.
Surely there is a way to ensure that all children benefit; cutting the hours to 15 instead of 20 perhaps?
I do hope that you will reconsider this move to ensure that all children, no matter their parents social background and financial situation will be given an equal educational opportunities; after all there is a reason why education from birth to 5 is called the 'foundation stage'.
The free nursery hours were put in place to prepare children for school.
