Draft Damages (Jersey) Law
Dr J Chohan
Dear Sirs
There is enormous potential that the cost of medical indemnity will rise to a point where it is unaffordable due this proposed law change. Recent increases in medical indemnity costs is already a huge burden to GPs and these costs so far have not been passed onto patients at present but it cannot be absorbed any more. The States need to realise that GPs are providing an increasingly demanding and complex service to the general public with reducing contributions from the States. There has to be some financial protection by the States from increased medical indemnity costs otherwise it will be impossible to continue to provide primary care. In the UK the government is already assisting in the cost of medical indemnity and there doctors are protected by crown indemnity which does not apply to GPs in Jersey. I hope that you do not take the GPs on Jersey for granted any more.
Thanks
Dr J Chohan
