Written Submission from member of the public re Future Hospital Site 14 October 2020

I reside at   , a development of 5 houses on Westmount Road and have been following the developments in the media in recent days.

Firstly I acknowledge the need for the new hospital which will better serve our Island in the years ahead. Nevertheless, I was disappointed by Senator Farnham 's comments in Saturday's Jersey Evening Post where he suggested all impacted residents had been contacted. This is simply not the case with matters coming to my attention through neighbours affected by the plans and reports published in the media.

At no point have I been contacted or even considered in this process. I have particular concerns in that my neighbours at  will effectively lose their homes and have to relocate elsewhere within the Island. Furthermore my property runs adjacent to  and I have concerns that the value of my property will be severely impacted should the plans be approved.

The saga of the new hospital development is well documented with significant money spent to date and does not warrant further comment from me. I do believe however that the current initiative is being bulldozed through with little concern for residents who are seen as collateral damage along the way.

In the aforementioned interview Senator Farnham made reference to all the plans being in the public domain but one has to review a 220 page document to understand the impact on our houses and even then it is not clear at this stage to what degree the proposed works will impact on the current boundaries and the aesthetic of the layout thereafter.

I have also been considering your comments where you appear to have given your blessing to the proposals. In a recent article you state " .as long as there is sufficient space for it to expand into the future, and I understand the Overdale site does leave room for expansion as well". Noting that the proposed project requires acquisition of surrounding land/properties what is the likelihood that there will be similar requests in the future should such expansion be deemed desirable. Clarification on this point would be appreciated.

We are living in unprecedented times and the latest developments and the way they have been handled to date certainly add to peoples anxieties.

I have written to Senator Farnham along similar lines and in tandem with neighbours I will be considering our legal options particularly with regards the planning process.

In the meantime, I should be grateful if would engage with us as a community at the earliest possible opportunity to understand our concerns and work with us.
