Scrutiny review - Children, Education & Home Affairs Panel
I first posted this on the Government Scrutiny Facebook page Friday 4th September 2020;
The issue of Government removing discipline from schools, and from the home to the extent which they have in recent years, is now reflected in discussions such as this, Police carrying weapons was not needed before Government removed consequences for unsocial behaviour in our schools and on our streets..
Bring back sound Christian values and clear disciplines into our society, which includes all children and young people, and such debates as arming police will simply be unnecessary.
Politician's are now facing the consequences of their own very poor policy making, which i believe they have allowed in the pursuit of political correctness, trying to please all the voting public, an impossible task that always has its own consequences.
The post was given 20 endorsements by the public and a few positive remarks.
I received this helpful reply. Hi Ian, Thanks for sharing your views. If you could email them to scrutiny@gov.je then they can be logged and shared with the panel. This will ensure they reach us properly and are taken in to account. Hope this helps, thanks Vicky
My 2nd post Saturday 5th September 2020
Following my previous post, I feel strongly, it is wrong to disadvantage this next generation of young people by depriving them the great value of experiencing discipline and consequences as they grow, they are being mis lead and disadvantaged growing up with a lack of understanding and empathy for others, respect for their elders, these things are to their great benefit, if given a chance they would discover this in time, these things ultimately bring peace and understanding to those who receive them. But because our young people are being shielded from discipline and the consequences of their actions, by a government who have created an environment where no teacher or parent or any figure of authority can tell young people what to do, they are lacking the peace and security they could and should be enjoying, it is such a great dis-service to them all. Some will grow through the lie that they can do what they like without consequences, but others will not, and they will suffer more knocks and rejection in life than they otherwise need to, because of their poor social skills created by a lack of sound teaching, and discipline in love, some will even end up in prison as a result.
This unfair burden put on them by the removal of right guidance and discipline is both sad and disgraceful, in 50 years from now no child today will thank any of us for not teaching them clearly, as the live in a society where police carry tasers and guns and wonder why life is so hard.
No discipline will never set children up for success. I believe Island leaders shouldn't be discussing arming police, instead they should be prioritising returning the Island to its Christian values that have served us all well for generations, allowing God back into the classroom. So children learn to Love your neighbour, do unto others as you would have others do unto you, honour your mother and father, give to the poor and help those in need. A quick look at the book of Proverbs chapter three gives some sound guidance to all, especially to the young.
I would strongly urge our Government to examine the outcome of their disastrous decisions to take away authority to administer discipline from parents, school teachers and even our police.
Some while ago there was a headline on the JEP front page after youths caused trouble in town one evening, it read something like; Youths riot in St Helier, where are the parents?
The answer to the question is, they were at home, shackled by Government from disciplining their children as they grew up. The reporter who wrote that headline showed the same lack of understand that policy makers show today, the problem was not the youths, it is the lack of teaching and discipline being administered in our society that caused the issue.
This has to be reversed NOW, Government please examine what you are doing, what the island needs is not an armed police force, it is a return to a right moral and Christian fibre in our society, you can and must bring that change about, future generations will not thank you for not dealing with this vital issue NOW.
Ian Curwood.
