Further to my previous correspondence, my situation which I would like to raise in relation to your investigations of complaints not being followed up.
I feel untrusting of the police after my experience. I do not ever want to enter the station again.
I never would have believed that our police force were corrupt, however I now know corruption isn't always back hand cash payments, it can just be turning a blind eye to situations if they decide to "protect one of their own".
I raised complaints with 3 x officers and 2 x internal investigation police and nothing was done at all.
I went for 5 meetings, had numerous calls, sent over 30 emails (most with no response) and was fobbed off at every level.
The reason for my complaints was due to the aggressive of my tenant who was a police officer.
was not on the lease, but list of antisocial and abusive behaviour was:
- Covering the property, outside of flat, other people's property with cameras
- Videoing tenants.
- Taking over people's garden
- Taking people's Parking
- Demanding access over people's garden
- Swearing in people's faces, threatening violence (I will knock you out/ kill you).
- Shouting at families and frightened their children
- Playing music very loud
- When there was open viewing on a flat to rent - calling out the fire, police and ambulance (apparently there was a glue smell - nothing found)
- Reporting me to CAB, environmental health, planning and building control or anyone else.
- Complaining about the flat but refusing access for anyone to do the work when it had been planned. Verbally attacking work men so they refuse to ever attend the property. Statements were made by an electrician, letting agent and a gardener but this was also done to builders, 3 x plumbers also.
- Refusing to pay rent and bills
- When suggested they were unhappy and could move out, break there lease and no notice, they demanded 5k
Honestly the list goes on. There were numerous complaints daily, it was such a horrible time of my life. I was and had 3 flats surround eventually empty. This was costing me a fortune and I felt bad for the people moving in and having to deal with this.
Even though the police let me come in and discuss the situation, all the information I gave was just reverted back to the police officer immediately. No one ever went out to investigate. When I gave contact details of witnesses and victims, no records of the telephone calls were made. was just allowed to continue causing carnage and creating a horrible environment. The police tried every way to avoid me making a complaint - Saying no crime had been committed, not making formal statements taken unless someone actually took to court, even though 5 x people spoke to the police and gave evidence by telephone. Saying it was my word against and disregarding these statements.
When I took it to internal affairs, after 5 meetings, explaining myself again and again for hours, I realised this was getting me nowhere and I was being fobbed off. When I accused the police of this and left, i was attacked alone in the lift. I will not go back to that police station again.
I believe my complaint is still active but not been progressed.
I have been advised to take the tenant to petty debts court for bills and rent and loss of rent by the lawyers, however the courts are currently shut due to COVID.
Finally, I am sure you can understand how distressing this all was. However the reason I feel this is so unfair is I was at a meal at right when this was at its worst and a table next to us complained about their food, politely as it was not what they were told the set party menu included. Within 10 minutes, two officers arrived - very different to my situation as the police refused to do anything. I saw on the police's Facebook page that sends the police "thank you"
Maybe that's what I should have done!
The police can respond to, report and record and tackle a situation if they want to or not.
The only way my situation resolved itself was that was sacked from his job for being aggressive to customers. This meant they were unable to pay their rent and moved somewhere cheaper.
I have lots of independent evidence of all the above and email chains detailing the 18 months of issues.
I am happy to appear in person and give this evidence in court. If this was to happen to someone else, maybe who lived , I am not sure how they would survive!
