Anonymous – 5th August 2022 It really doesn't go far enough!

Yesterday the Bank of England put up interest rates by 0.5%, the biggest in 27 years. Out fixed rate mortgage is up in October, who know how much we'll have to pay by then. It's not only people who rent that struggle, homeowners are struggling too.

The budget completely missed a section of the community out, students. Student funding hasn't been reviewed for years despite constant promises. The thesholds where parents have to contribute should have been adjusted annually , they have just been left the same for the last 4 years. The 2.9% extra on Maintenance grants is pathetic. Has any research been done on how much students are paying towards travel, rent, food, utility bills, books etc? I doubt it. My sons rent for halls alone last year was about £7400.00. Flights cost are ridiculous now. I have 3 teenagers, 2 of voting she. When I asked them to vote earlier this year both their replies were what's the point' they don't think about us. I absolutely agree with them! They did vote though, although not sure why I bothered getting them to though.

We are giving Jersey 2 more years before deciding whether to leave. My family has roots here for hundreds of years, but I really don't think we'll be able to afford to leave here soon.
