Dear Deputy Scott

Proposed Government Plan 2024 - 2027 Review

Thank you for your letter dated 27 October inviting us to comment on the above with specific focus on disability sport.

My approach to this matter was to invite all clubs affiliated to this Association to give feedback on the Government plan and the following points were raised.

There is no obvious provision for a gymnastics facility that can be used exclusively by our Jersey Special Gymnastics Club. They are not saying they should have a facility solely for their use but need approximately 10 hours per week where they are the only users of the facility. The gymnasts in question have learning disabilities and there are safeguarding considerations if they were expected to use a shared facility.

There is no provision for an indoor artificial surface football pitch. The now decommissioned facility at Les Ormes was very popular and well used and our learning disabilities football team would make great use of a Government owned artificial surface football pitch.

The club that offered our members disability martial arts experiences were evicted from Fort Regent due to building safety considerations and were promised like for like facilities by the Government of Jersey. Sadly, this promise has not been met and there is no obvious provision for this within any Government owned facility that is proposed.

Wheelchair basketball is a well established and very popular sport in Jersey and currently the club is only able to operate for one hour per week which is woefully inadequate. The Government plan needs to ensure that there is adequate sports hall provision to allow this club to operate for a minimum of 4 hours per week with suitable storage for the specialised wheelchairs used only for sport.

I am most grateful to you for the opportunity you have given us to review and comment on the Government plan.
