JERSEY WORK PERMIT REVIEW

CHALLENGES FACED

One-year requirement: remaining with original employer for one year.

Several of our members commented that they were forced to remain in a toxic work environment for a year in order to serve out this one-year policy. One of our members returned to his home country because his work environment became untenable, and he had no other options available to him (despite the fact he had another job offer.)

Hospitality 9-month permit.

Request for 12-month permits to be issued and for the requirement to leave Jersey for 3 months to be re- assessed as travel back to home countries is restrictive.

Self-employment restrictions.

Request for permit-holders to be able to set up companies and become self-employed.

Additional employment restrictions.

Request for permit-holders to be able to seek part-time employment in addition to their main job in order to alleviate cost of housing / living.

Spouse employment restrictions.

Request for spouses of permit-holders to seek employment in order to alleviate cost of housing / living.

Visas on renewal of work permits.

Request for vignette visas to be issued on renewal of work permit. (Upon renewal of the initial work permit of 3 years, a vignette visa is not issued but rather a stamp is given in the passport and this causes issues between immigration in different countries as the customarily recognized UK and other visas are in Vignette form.)
