Marine Spatial Plan Review Submission Anonymous 3 28 August 2024

Instead of reducing the size of the protected area of the marine environment, there should be demands to be increasing the size. Substantially.

Fishing is an important industry and a fine and noble occupation if carried out in a way which is respectful of the environment, and of all the marine life which calls the sea home'.

If overfishing and the destruction of the marine environment, including the sea bed, continues, there will not be enough fish/crustaceans/molluscs etc left to support a fishing industry at all. Then there will not just be a reduced number of fishermen; there will be no fishermen.

Protection of the marine environment and efforts to allow the various species of marine creatures to recover and multiply is of huge importance to the future wellbeing of fishing as an industry.

We have enjoyed the privilege of cheap fish and (in particular) luxury crustaceans for too long. If they are overfished they become scarce and prices rise or they become a unavailable. No surprise there. The environment needs further protection in order to protect what we love and enjoy.
