Scrutiny Launches Review into Jersey’s Supply Chain Resilience
3 July 2023
The Economic and International Affairs Scrutiny Panel (the Panel) has launched a review of Jersey's Supply Chain Resilience.
The main objective of this review is to examine the policies of the Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture regarding competition and diversification; warehousing and stockpiling; and onshoring of the Island's supply chain.
The Panel recognises that, as a small Island jurisdiction, the transportation of goods to and from Jersey is crucial for the maintenance of the economy. The Panel will be looking to explore the impact of occurrences of supply chain disruptions on the business community and the Island more widely.
The review will seek to explore the following:
-
Examine the Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture's policies concerning Jersey's Supply Chain Resilience.
-
Examine the occurrence of supply chain disruptions and the impact on the business community.
-
Determine the arrangement, barriers to entry, and key opportunities and threats to Jersey's supply chain.
-
Determine the adequacy of Government consultation that has taken place with industry regarding Jersey's supply chain which may inform future plans.
As part of the review, the Panel will gather evidence from business owners and members of the public on their experiences, send direct invitations to stakeholders and key witnesses, and hold Public Hearings.
Deputy Moz Scott, Chair of the Panel, said:
"A strong and resilient supply chain is crucial to the well-being of Jersey. We welcome views from business owners and consumers on the Island, as our priority is to ensure that we capture the views and experiences of our community on this important topic".
