Privileges and Procedures Committee Political Awareness and Education Sub-Committee (7th Meeting)

Minutes. A1. The Chair welcomed the new members to the Sub-Committee following the

reconstitution as a result of the Vote of No Confidence.

Position Paper A2. The Sub-Committee considered the position paper noting the work undertaken to date

and upcoming projects.

 

 

 

Feedback and  A3. The Head of Digital and Public Engagement provided the Sub-Committee with a Awareness of  summary of upcoming projects.

Engagement

Projects.  The Sub-Committee was advised that work was underway to review ‘BAU’ activities,

including the timing and coverage achieved by our press notices. It was also advised that video content featuring Members talking about their experiences of public life are being recorded as part of the #PlanToStand campaign launching in June 2024.

Democracy

Week  A4. The Campaign Manager provided the Sub-Committee with an overview of the list

of potential activities being considered for Democracy Week 2024. The Sub-Committee was advised that there were several projects ongoing which included school visits, constituency drop-ins, a democracy bus, and other areas of activity.

The Sub-Committee discussed how the distinct roles of Chief Minister Deputy Chief Minister and  Assistant  Chief Minister  roles are explained to  the  public  and  was informed that information about the first two roles is available via the States Assembly website, and that typically, information about the Assistant Minister roles comes from the Government Communications team. The Sub-Committee also asked if there was a relationship between  States  Assembly  Comms  and  Government  Comms  and  was informed that there was a strong relationship however, both acted independently.

Meeting with

Parishes  A5. The Sub-Committee was informed that a meeting with the Comité de Connétable s

was due to take place in June or July when the citizenship day and coming of age ceremony would be discussed. It was requested that the coming-of-age ceremony information available to date be circulated to the Sub-Committee.

Jersey

Opinions and  A6. The Head of Digital and Public Engagement informed the Sub-Committee of the Lifestyle  areas that were being discussed for the upcoming JOLS. The Sub-Committee asked if Survey  the order could be ‘tweaked’ and more than one option within the scale of 1-10 tick (JOLS).  box.

New States

Assembly  A7. The Sub-Committee was informed that the new website was progressing with a ‘go Website.  live’ date set for July 2024.

Any other

business.  A8. The Sub-Committee agreed that it would discuss the item ‘Standing for Election’

and consider the Pilot Study undertaken by Professor Chris Pitch on ‘Jersey Voter Engagement Groups’ at its next scheduled meeting.

Future  A9. The Sub-Committee agreed that the next meeting due to be held on the 16th May Meetings.  2024.
