The Executive Committee is active in maintaining links at a political level with the heads of French speaking parliaments, and in particular those situated in European Region. These include –

Benelux | Jura | Romania |
Bulgaria | Lithuania | Switzerland |
Belgium | Luxembourg | Valais |

Geneva | Monaco |
|
In particular, contacts that have been made and nurtured over the years have been found to be very helpful in educating other jurisdictions about the propriety of our finance sector, and the level of regulation that exists. They have also been of value in the context of discussions with France.
There is no pre-determined number of members that form the constitution of the Committee, the only pre- requisite being the ability to speak and read French to a high standard. Three members retired from the States at the end of the last session, and the following three names of members seeking membership are put forward for approval by the States.
M i c h ael Keith Jackson , Connétable of St. Brelade D e p u ty Sean Power of St Brelade
D e p u ty Juliette Gallichan of St. Mary
There are no financial or manpower implications for the States arising from this proposition.
At a recent meeting of the Executive Committee, the following tribute to retiring States members was paid, which it wishes to repeat here as a matter of public record –
" O n behalf of the Jersey Section, the President expressed his gratitude to Senator J.A. Le Maistre for his enormous contribution to the Jersey Section having been involved from the outset and having taken over as President from an early stage. Senator Le Maistre expressed his appreciation for the support he had received, especially from officers. He stated that he could not have achieved his aims without that support. He reminded the Jersey Section that the opportunities offered by membership of the APF were enormous and the challenge was to ensure that sufficient French-speaking members continued to come through. The provision of French lessons for States members by the Commission Amicale was helping in this regard. He added that there was not a full understanding by members of the value of French-speaking parliaments which provided a link into different forums and in particular those which were closer to home, in Europe.
T h e President also thanked the Deputy of St. John and Deputy J.A.Bridge for their contributions. The
Deputy of St. John, Deputy P.J. Rondel, noted that he had seen doors open in Paris and other locations
which arose as a result of membership of the APF and the Groupe d'Études. He asked the Jersey Section to
endeavour to make sure that those doors remained open and to continue with the work in which it had been involved."
