States Greffe: Scrutiny
Senator John Le Fondré Chief Minister
Cyril Le Marquand House The Parade, St Helier JE4 8UL
08 January 2019 Dear Chief Minister
Public Sector Pay
I am writing to you to establish your intentions with regards to the leadership of the States Employment Board (SEB). This matter is particularly important in the context of the on-going public sector pay dispute and the imminent strike action.
Following the resignation of Senator Vallois as Chair of the SEB on 12th December 2018, we are concerned that a replacement has not yet been appointed. Please could you reply by return, confirming who you intend to appoint to this role and how the leadership of the SEB is being managed in the interim?
Given the evident dissatisfaction within the public sector workforce and the knock-on effect on public services in the Island, we consider that it is important that the Council of Ministers and States Employment Board are publicly held to account for their policies and decisions. We therefore request that members of the SEB, including the interim Chair, and yourself as Chief Minister, appear before us in a public hearing within the next two weeks.
Arrangements for a mutually convenient date and time should be made with our Scrutiny Officer.
In light of the urgent nature of this matter, we ask that you respond by return. We intend to place your response in the public domain.
Yours sincerely
Senator Kristina Moore
Chairman, Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel
