Good morning
I have just received an email from the Jersey Live organisers advising festival goers that the states are considering charging the consumer extra for the policing of events such as Jersey Live. The organisers urged us to voice our a opinions as to whether we feel this is fair or not as tax paying citizens.
As a tax paying citizen, I do object to paying twice for police services of such events.
This particular festival has given a huge boast to the Tourism Industry, generating more business for companies such as Condor ferries, HD ferries, hotels/guest houses/campsites, plus various other participating companies, which will result in these companies paying more tax.
It is also unfair that festival goers of this particular festival and other selected ones should be charged extra when attendees of other large events such as The Battle of Flowers and The Battle of Britain are exempt of this charge, irrespective of whether these events are traditional or
not.Modern ,entrepreneurial minded organisers should be encouraged not targeted with unfair extra costs to their users.
Finally and most importantly, tax payers have already paid for these events to be policed, and it is outrageous to suggest that they should pay twice, particularly as Jersey is a wealthy island and can well afford to pay for such events.
Yours sincerely Anna Jackson
