To Whom it May Concern,
Regarding the charges for policing for the Jersey Live event, the cost of the tickets was a reasonable amount to pay which I believed included the costs of extra policing hence the reason for the increase of the tickets this year. Although I think it is unfair that the Battle of Flowers deployment of Police is paid from the income taxes gained, this event brings in a lot of tourism as does Jersey Live therefore either the sale of tickets for the Battle of Flowers increases to pay for extra policing or extra policing paid for Jersey Live should be paid by income taxes gained too. Both events are enjoyable from local residents and tourists alike, so if this extra custom is helping Jersey's financial industry isn't it fair that the island taxes pay for all events?
Is there scrutiny about payment for deployment of Police for the Jersey Live event because it isn't everyone's cup of tea? One has to understand that there are all different generations in the island and everyone's needs, need to be met so to speak, I would rather go to Jersey Live than go the Battle of Flowers, whereas others would prefer the latter, either way as a tax payer I am not going to complain that taxes that I have paid go towards extra policing for an event I don't wish to attend which I am paying for others to see, so why can't the people who attend the Battle of Flowers and not Jersey Live pay towards the policing at an event that I attend, which they prefer not to?
I also believe that Jersey Live will get bigger and better and more opportunities of being able to see different UK bands, which normally you wouldn't be able to see unless you went to a UK festival for example, Glastonbury, Reading etc. I would rather see them locally keeping my money in the island and helping local businesses, and also helping the environment by not causing any carbon emissions from flying to the UK, not just that wasn't it a 1,000 trees that we were able to donate to the tamarind monkeys habitat because of the recycling of cans used, does the Battle of Flowers event contribute towards this global ecology?
Sincerely,
Mrs Jayne Le Couilliard
