Good morning,

I would like to add my voice to the debate about the user pays debate in policing.

I find it difficult to comprehend why the States are even generating this debate. We are supposed to be promoting this island as a diverse, exciting place to visit for people of all ages. To say that an event like Jersey Live, which has grown in a short space of time to be a huge success and has resulted in a mountain of positive publicity for the island should pay it's own way, whilst 'traditional' (good old Jersey events) such as the Battle of Flowers, Battle of Britain, Gorey Fete etc should not! How backward thinking is this logic? How is our annual calendar of events ever supposed to develop and expand when we decide to cripple the organisers of such events with massive policing bills?

Or do you want to jeopardise such events because they attract the 'wrong crowd'!

I speak as an individual who enjoys all of the above events, it's great to live somewhere that is attempting to develop a more dynamic and hopefully sustainable programme of events.

If revenue for policing needs to be raised then a token fee needs to be levied across all events, not just those that don't suit your particular taste, because that is the very clear message that is emanating from this debate, which is a huge shame.

Regards, Kevin Brace.
