Dear Sirs
I was very disappointed to hear that there a two tier system to user pays policing is being proposed, whereby so called "hertitage" events are exept paying the charge. It occurs to me that this is a manifestly unfair, (if not inequitable) way of supporting a status quo, maintaining Jersey's reputation of being conservative
andnot looking to the future. Where is our culture going to go if all we do is wheel out the same tired
formula every time? I believe that everything should be done to support new vibrant events such as Jersey Live (an event that has such demand it sells-out each year), whereas clapped-out white elephants such as the Battle of Flowers should be put out to grass. If the B of F can't generate enough demand and interest to survive without subsidies, isn't it time to have a wholesale review of the event instead of propping it up with taxpayer's money?
I hope you see sense and make a priority of giving support where it is needed and deserved.
Yours faithfully Michael Le Gresley
