As a taxpayer, I feel that the remit of the Police is to police and protect the Public throughout the Island. I am someone who attends many events in Jersey, be it a Tourism' event or a private event such as Jersey Live, and expect the police to do their duty by me wherever it may be. It is unacceptable for them to expect me to pay extra to attend an event just because it is perceived as entertainment. I do not go into St Helier, get drunk and cause public disorder offences; I do not drink drive, take drugs, or commit burglary. Perhaps the criminal elements of this Island should pay the cost of their policing instead of the general public being penalized for just wishing to enjoy themselves at a gathering. The organizers of the event may have agreed to pay a cost for policing in order for the event to go ahead. They did not have any control over the amount of policing and having brought in and paid for their own very efficient and experienced security team, the need for officers from outside of the Island was completely over the top. This event has been held for 4 years now without major problems, experience should now say, enough is enough.
