I have just recently been informed of the scrutiny panels plan to possibly tax the user of events such as Jersey Live a tax for policing the event. However events such as Battle of Flower or Air Display would not have the extra tax put on them.
In my opinion Jersey Live is growing in the public arena. It has become an event of national interest and will encourage young people from overseas to visit Jersey for the event. They will need to fly or come by boat. Once here unless they know a local person they will need accommodation and also to buy food etc. This is like any other tourism event in Jersey in attracting people to the island.
If the average Jersey Live attendee is in the age group of 15-45 then a large percentage of them will be working and paying Jersey Income Tax. The policing of such an event does not need to be on the scale we saw this year......over the top!!!
The crowd was well behaved and from what I understand there were very little arrests or disorderly behaviour. Jersey people do understand that if they ruin this they will never have the chance again to see national bands play on their island.
So I would ask you to reconsider before adding an extra tax to the cost of tickets. It will not only turn off the local purchaser but will definitely make a visitor think twice before spending money to visit Jersey.
Thank you.
