I have a few ideas for fort regent that i believe would be beneficial

in terms of tourism and giving young people and in some cases adults more choice of activities.

They are:

Swimming pool area:

Change the old swimming pool and its surrounding changing area into an indoor ski area, i appreciate it may involve heightening the roof or digging lower. Change it to a proper skate park for the kids both young and older. You could then use it to host international skateboarding events or bmx or rollerblades aka like the extreme games. This would have an impact on tourism and be a show point for Jersey.

Rotunda or elsewhere

What about an indoor climbing wall the roofs around the fort are so high you could easily accomodate one minimum, and people who are experienced could use it to hone their skills, people who want to get fit could use it. Youngsters could use it and even those who just want to give it a go to see if they would like to take it further could make use. In fact those who are just intrigued might have a go. It would outstrip the current one in St Ouen on the basis you could go higher and even split it into levels of difficulty and height.

How about using some of the space to host an annual poker tournament, as you are no doubt aware that is a huge income generating activity these days. If you see it on the tv you will see it would bring in some high rollers just for the prestige of winning a new tournment. Actually on further thought i might just look into doing this myself!

Similar to the above you have room to do computer games tournaments whereby people bring their own pc or games machine, hook into a network and play against each other either for fun or for a prize. This is also one of the latest things going on around the world and provides tv coverage (as does poker and skateboarding competitions).

Outside:

At the back where i think the old jungle jim was you could have a go cart track or perhaps quad bikes although i havent been there for 20 odd years so may be smaller than i remember. Even so, on the way to that area why not bring back some of the old rides, i will rephrase that, how about populating the space with some new rides that can make use of the space and give an exhilirating rather than boring (as per the old ones) experience. Check out the Las Vegas Stratosphere. you could have the one that shoots you up into the sky or even the one that perches you precariously over the edge of the building, perhaps in Jersey it could go over the old cable car route (which i beleieve removing was the forts biggest mistake). Here's a link to give you an idea what i mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSOKHvc9Obw

So, if you have read this far those are some ideas that I believe would help improve the experience of going to fort regent for many age groups. And in many cases, after an initial outlay could pay for themselves and then bring in revenue in a short amount of time(poker/xtreme games(skatebord etc)) thus releasing funds for larger projects.

I am also of the belief that many of those ideas above could help to bring in tourism and help to boost the islands position in a worldwide perspective.

I would really look forward to some feedback on my ideas so hope to hear from you. Paul
