I write following the request for information & evidence from families struggling to afford university education.

My son started university in September of this year and we are experiencing great difficulties funding his studies.

I am a community nurse earning a net wage of £52,000

My husband works for Social Security earning a net wage of £32,000, he has set up his own business to work in the evenings to earn a little to help fund the expense of university. To date he has not made any money and is still trying to cover the costs of the business set up. Recently he has been under some very uncomfortable scrutiny from Social Security for having a second job and it looks like he may be prevented form continuing with his business.

We have three children;

Son at university at a cost of £9000 + Accom £ 9444 Daughter at JCG at a cost of £4959

Daughter at Beaulieu at a cost of £5637

Like may middle earners we have also mortgage.

We feel squeezed in the extreme and anticipate our life savings will be gone before our son completes his degree. Unless the funding system changes it looks unlikely that our daughters will not have the same opportunity as our son. This is heart breaking.

Our only hope is the current system is fairly reviewed.
