Primary School Resources

We’re passionate about helping younger students understand the basics of democracy, community, and the role of the States Assembly in Jersey. Our resources are designed to support primary teachers in bringing these big ideas to life in a fun and accessible way.

From classroom visits and interactive workshops to engaging teaching materials, we aim to spark curiosity and build a strong foundation for active citizenship. Whether you’re introducing the concept of voting, exploring how decisions are made, or preparing for your Year 5 visit to the Chamber, our resources can help make it meaningful for your pupils.

All activities are curriculum-friendly, easy to use, and created with primary learners in mind. If you're looking for something specific or want to arrange a visit, we’d love to hear from you!

Year 5 visits to the States Chamber

Every year, children in year 5 from each of the Island’s schools visit the States Chamber to learn about the history of the States Assembly and participate in a debate.

These visits provide an exciting opportunity to learn about how decisions are made in Jersey whilst sitting in the seat of a States Member and taking in all the details of the States Chamber.

Before their visit, all students receive a booklet which gives an overview of the work of the States Assembly, which includes a range of activities that can be completed at home or in school. Schools also have access to a fully resourced, cross-curricular Scheme of Learning linked to the booklet to ensure that the learning in the Chamber is also embedded in the classroom.

As well fulfilling requirements of the citizenship curriculum, this Scheme of Learning also allows schools to deliver important elements of the English curriculum, including spoken language and writing skills, as well as History.

Family members are invited to watch the debates in the States Chamber from the Public Gallery; please advise you child's school in advance if you're able to attend.

WebQuests

Our WebQuests are short, interactive, research-based tasks that guide students through key topics related to politics, citizenship, and the States Assembly.

Each WebQuest also includes a creative challenge or extension activity to deepen students’ knowledge and understanding based on their research.
