Secondary School Resources

In addition to visits, workshops, and opportunities to engage with the States Assembly in person, we also offer a range of classroom-ready materials designed specifically for secondary school students and teachers. These resources help bring parliamentary processes and democratic engagement to life in a way that’s accessible, relevant, and age-appropriate.

All resources are free to use and designed to slot easily into your existing curriculum. Whether you're sparking a quick discussion or planning a longer project, you'll find tools to support meaningful learning about democracy in Jersey.

Mark My Words

Mark My Words is our Year 8 oracy competition, designed to encourage persuasive communication and critical thinking.

Participating schools deliver a three-week unit of work that places public speaking within a political context. Students are tasked with creating a speech of up to three minutes, calling for local change.

Finalists are then selected from each school to take part in the main inter-school competition, where they deliver their speeches and engage in questioning with peers from other schools.

Mark My Words 2025 will launch on Teams on Tuesday, 29 April. Resources will be fully available following the launch. To attend, please email getinvolved@gov.je.

Form Time Sessions

Our Form Time Sessions are designed to make it easy for schools to introduce citizenship topics during tutor time.

Each slide includes a States Member, a Jersey-related statistic, a debate question, a word of the day, and a maths problem — all linked to local themes. These bite-sized activities are perfect for prompting discussion, encouraging curiosity, and helping students connect with what’s happening in Jersey.

WebQuests

Our WebQuests are short, interactive, research-based tasks that guide students through key topics related to politics, citizenship, and the States Assembly.

Each WebQuest also includes a creative challenge or extension activity to deepen students’ knowledge and understanding based on their research.
