After the words "Appendix to this Proposition" insert the words ", except that on page 14 of the Appendix to the Proposed Common Strategic Policy 2018–22 ("5 Strategic priorities"), in the section headed "What we will achieve", after the second bullet-point, to insert a new bullet-point worded as follows: "Support and strengthen our tourism industry".".

THE STATES are asked to decide whether they are of opinion
in accordance with Article 18(2)(e) of the States of Jersey Law 2005, to approve the statement of the Common Strategic Policy of the Council of Ministers as set out in the Appendix to this Proposition, except that on page 14 of the Appendix to the Proposed Common Strategic Policy 2018–22 ("5 Strategic priorities"), in the section headed "What we will achieve", after the second bullet-point, to insert a new bullet-point worded as follows: "Support and strengthen our tourism industry".

REPORT
It is regrettable that the Proposed Common Strategic Policy 2018–22 makes little reference to Jersey's tourism industry, nor the retail and hospitality sectors which support and benefit from it. There are references to our visitors in the sections covering the economy, transport links and the improvement of St. Helier (which I particularly welcome); however, such a key part of our economic strategy – and how the States can do more to support it – surely deserves to be included in any debate on the Island's strategic policies for the next 4 years, and a bullet-point to itself.

There are no additional financial or manpower implications for the States arising from this amendment.
